Lynne E. Martin Bowman & James H. Bowman

We send our heartfelt condolences to my Aunt Nannette Sissell & cousins Nancy, Susan, Shipp and all their families upon the death of my uncle (Lynne's) Bill, my mother Lucile Sissell Martin's younger brother. My husband, Jim and I send our prayers as well. We will be unable to attend the services & burial tomorrow morning (4.22.2013) due to distance-- we are in Greensboro, NC and only learned of his death this morning...and are unable to get a flight to Memphis or Jackson that would allow us to get there in time. But, in any case, I think of all the good memories of being with my uncle over the years on my family's various trips to Mississippi from Chevy Chase, MD where I grew up, where my mother and father lived for many years (and later trips over the years) Uncle Bill, as I called him, was always up for a discussion of the latest news-- When I was a young teen, he was very indulgent with me, as I discussed politics and various issues. He would get right in the discussion with me. We would talk for hours. Aunt Nannette was indulgent to let us talk for hours when I would visit their home (I visited their Crowder home, as well as various Batesville homes) during our family visits to my grandparents, Sadie and Reuel Sissell (full names are in the obituary). I am now his only living niece on the Sissell side, since the death of my sister Lucile Sissell Martin Hall in 2011, and he was the only uncle I had on the Sissel side. I remember, too, that he took me to his Civitan meetings on occasion, too. And along with my grandfather, we took "tours" of the farmland that my grandfather had acquired, and that my uncle helped to oversee. I remember, too, how he loved to teach and enjoyed his students. Education was (and is) important in the Sissell family. My grandparents instilled it's importance in both my mother and my uncle (and to their other two children,Reuel, JR. and Ruth, I am sure). My mother loved her younger brother very much. "William," or sometimes,"Brother," as she called him had been both respected and dear to her. She died in 1/2003, at 89 and would have been 90 on 5/13 that year. I'm sure she and my father will being saying hello, helping him, perhaps, negotiate the new green fields of that higher, holy place. With love and prayers to my aunt and family, Lynne and Jim
