Obituary for Kenneth Wesley Turner

Mr. Kenneth Wesley Turner, 67, of Southaven, MS, was surrounded by his family at the home he loved and had built when he peacefully went home to be with Jesus Christ on Friday, January 24, 2014 after fighting a 5 year battle of illnesses.

Mr. Turner knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was of the Baptist faith. He was affiliated with First Baptist Church in Horn Lake, MS and was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved playing his guitar and singing with several bands throughout the years.

Mr. Turner was born in Manila, AR on October 30, 1946 to The Late James and Louis Gifford Turner as the oldest son of six children and the second to be born. He graduated from Deering High School in Deering, MO in 1964. He served as an assistant manager for Pic Pac Food Stores in Memphis, TN from 1964-1966. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam war having served his country from 1966-1968. During this time he was stationed in Germany where he worked in communications and enjoyed playing with his band in the Officer’s Club and in other clubs in the area. In 1968 he was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to Memphis where he lived and worked for Nat Buring Food Group for the next 20 years. He and his family moved to Mississippi in 1974. He served as a real estate agent and broker for several companies and was a member of the Northwest Mississippi Board of Realtors from 1985-2009.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Turner of Southaven, MS; two children, Greg Turner (Elizabeth) and Felicia Maclin (Chris); three sisters, Kathryn Cox (Harvey), Brenda Morris (Cecil) and Lana Edwards; two brothers, Dennis Turner (Suzanne) and Steve Turner; and two grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “Poppy,” Alex Turner and Tatum Maclin.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 2pm in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 6-8pm. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org or to First Baptist Church, 3505 W. Goodman Rd., Horn Lake, MS 38637.
