Obituary for William Maurice Durley

William Maurice Durley, 79, passed away on July 23, 2021, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Maurice was born in Oxford, MS, on July 26, 1941, to Thelma Crockett Durley and Edmond Clayton Durley.

Maurice grew up working on the family farm with his brothers and even farmed briefly after graduating high school. Maurice was a purpose-driven individual and later made the decision to leave farming. At that time, he became employed by Fred’s and Baddour Incorporated where he worked for over 20 years.

Later, he built his own business in Senatobia, Durley’s Custom Auto Care and Quick Lube. This was the first quick lube business in Tate County, which provided a service to the community for over 20 years. Maurice loved the outdoors and upon his retirement, he enjoyed working on his farm, managing the Tyro Cemetery and was very active in soil conservation.

Maurice lived by example and inspired many. He was a beloved and faithful friend, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. There are no words to convey how much he was loved and will be missed. His great example will live on in his many friends and family.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving family, which includes his wife of 57 years, Lightie Dandridge Durley of Senatobia, MS; two sons, William Todd Durley and his wife Stephanie Anderson Durley of Houston, TX and Clayton Wayne Durley and his wife, Jennifer Mardis Durley of Collierville, TN; two sisters, Jeanne Goodwill of Collierville, TN and his twin sister, Marie Wheeler and her husband Frank Wheeler of Sanford, NC; one brother, Wayne Durley and his wife, Virginia Durley of Hernando, MS; and six grandsons, William Hudson Durley, Samuel Edmond Durley, Leland Rivers Durley, John Clayton Durley, Webber Wilson Durley, and Benton Mardis Durley, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Webber Durley and Byron Durley and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Thyatira Church of Christ. The family will receive guests from 9:30 a.m.-11a.m. at the church. A private burial will be held after the service.
