Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Neal Rayburn, 76, of Sardis, MS passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.
Mr. Rayburn was born on December 14, 1943 in Como, MS to The Late Mabel Britt Rayburn and J.P. Rayburn. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sardis. Mr. Rayburn was a former deputy sheriff with the Quitman County Sheriff's Department and was a shriner and a mason. He proudly served as an Alderman for the Town of Sardis and loved being actively involved in community activities. He worked for Center Point Gas Company and in his spare time, he enjoyed basketball, hunting, and fishing. He loved children and animals and found great joy in spending time with both. Tommy was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be missed dearly.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Peggy Rayburn of Sardis, MS; his son, Neal Rayburn (Christy) of Hernando, MS; five brothers, Franklin Rayburn (Martha) of Crenshaw, MS, Gerald Rayburn (Mary) of Madison, MS, Otis Rayburn (Dianne) of Canton, MS, Larry Rayburn (Dot) of Sardis, MS, and Harry Rayburn (Josephine) of Tupelo, MS; and two grandchildren, Alec Rayburn and Will Rayburn, both of Hernando, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 12 pm in the First Baptist Church in Sardis, MS with Rev. Mike Jernigan and Rev. Andy Brasher officiating. The family will receive friends in the church on Wednesday from 10 am - 12 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 108 West Lee Street, Sardis, MS 38666.
