Obituary for Ted Gilbert Welch

Ted Gilbert Welch,78, passed away, Sunday, October 15, 2023, after a long illness, surrounded by many loving family members. He was born on March 19,1945, in Sarah, MS, to Joe and Gertrude Welch. Ted and his wife, Linda, were formerly long-time residents of Senatobia (Tate County) MS, until relocating to Olive Branch, MS.

Ted was a veteran of the Army National Guard of Mississippi and retired from Federal Express after many years as a long-haul semi-truck driver. He loved his job and the friends he met along the way. Ted was always the first person to volunteer to help others or volunteer to serve his church and family.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved serving the Lord and working and serving in the temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He studied the scriptures daily and his love for the scriptures grew stronger as he built his knowledge and faith in the words written in each line. He studied and prayed and shared his knowledge with his family and others.

Ted loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing jokes on everyone. Above all, Ted loved his wife, Linda and his family.

Left to cherish his memory, is his loving wife of 60 years, Linda Sue Smith Welch; two daughters, Terry Lynn (Mark) Bryant of Kingman AZ and Carmen Lee (Rickey) Thompson of Olive Branch, MS, formally of Senatobia, MS; seven grandchildren, Rob (Sam) Pounders, Madilyn (Ernesto) Bravo, Katie (Steve) Wiese, Derek (Danielle) Bryant, Jacob (Alexis) Thompson, Alecia Bryant and Abigale (Tauvaga) HoChing and fourteen great- grandchildren, Tayler, Jorden, Griffin “Gilbert”, Jessalyn, Matthew, Natalya, Addison, Cody, Kennedy, Dylan, Tauvaga III; Tomasi “Jimmy”, Theodore “Teddy” and Everly. In addition to his parents, Ted is preceded in death by his brothers, Noel, Gerald, Bobby and Johnny, his sister Marion Collums and his great-granddaughter Emerson Kate Pounders.

Visitation will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Senatobia MS, from 1p.m to 2p.m, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Senatobia MS, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at LDS Cemetery, 680 Truslow Rd., Sarah, MS 38665.

The Family would like to give a special thanks to Crystal Mills, Spring Valley Hospice, Dee Harris, Brenda Strong and Nancy Holley for the loving care he received.
