Obituary for Martha Raye Smith (Moore)
Martha Raye Moore Smith, 82, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Tallahatchie Extended Care Facility in Charleston, MS. Mrs. Smith was born in Crowder, MS on February 23, 1938, to Mose and Lillian Bounds Moore.
She was a member of Crowder Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Citizens Bank and Trust and former Mayor of Crowder. Mrs. Smith enjoyed the outdoors, loved all animals and was a great Elvis fan. Her hobbies included reading, listening to music, dancing, and watching westerns. She will be remembered as a very caring person, a friend to all, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Left to cherish her memory is her loving family, which includes two sons, Mark Steven Smith and wife Stephenne of Biloxi, MS and Harold Reed Smith and wife Marilyn of Grenada, MS; one sister June Burton of Eads, TN; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, The Late Wilton H. Smith; one son, Dewayne Smith, and her parents.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Crowder Cemetery in Crowder, MS.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Dickins Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
