Obituary for Lightie Durley (Dandridge)

Lightie Rivers Dandridge Durley, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, September 24, 2022, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.

Lightie was born December 9, 1942, in Thyatira, MS, to the late Velma Dickerson Dandridge and William Cathey Dandridge Sr. She grew up, married, raised her children, and retired in the remarkable community of Thyatira close to the family farm. She was a graduate of Senatobia High School and Northwest Mississippi Junior College. Lightie was a treasured and beloved member of Peoples Bank for over 41 years. She also supported the establishment and operation of Durley’s Quick Lube in Senatobia, which provided a service to the community for over 20 years.

Lightie lived by example and inspired many. She was a beloved and faithful friend, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. There are no words to convey how much she was loved and will be missed. Her virtuous example will live on in her many friends and family.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving family, which includes two sons, Wm. Todd Durley, and his wife Stephanie Anderson Durley of Sugar Land, TX and Clayton Wayne Durley and his wife, Jennifer Mardis Durley of Collierville, TN; and six grandsons, William Hudson Durley, Samuel Edmond Durley, Leland Rivers Durley, John Clayton Durley, Webber Wilson Durley, and Benton Mardis Durley, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lightie is reunited with her husband of 57 years, William Maurice Durley, one sister, Ann Parks (Lucien), brother Wm. Cathey Dandridge Jr. (JoAnn) and her parents.

The family will receive guests from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Thyatira Church of Christ, followed by the memorial service. A private burial will be held in Tyro after the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Tyro Cemetery, 6976 Looxahoma-Tyro Road, Senatobia, MS 38668; Thyatira Cemetery, 263 Pugh Rd., Coldwater, MS 38618; or the Thyatira Church of Christ, 26059 Highway 4 East, Senatobia, MS 38668.
