Obituary for John Richard "Sonny" Coleman Sr.

John Richard “Sonny” Coleman, Sr., 89, U.S. Army veteran, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at his home in Senatobia, MS. Mr. Coleman was born August 26, 1933, in Memphis, TN to Homer and Dawn Robinson Coleman. He was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Memphis (formerly Memphis State College). He was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

He was an insurance special agent, owner of John Coleman Insurance Agency and a builder of custom homes in the north Mississippi area. Mr. Coleman was a co-owner of several Midtown Memphis restaurants, including Silky Sullivan’s. He was a self-made man, who stood tall against the troubles of life, and then the angels took him to a better place. He was an affiliate member of the First United Methodist Church, Senatobia.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife, Marie Mullins Goodwin Coleman of Senatobia; a son, John R. Coleman of Memphis; one daughter, Christie Leah Coleman of Southaven; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Yarbrough of Sharpsburg, GA and his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Senatobia Memorial Cemetery.
