Obituary for Jerry Tillman Gant

Jerry Tillman Gant passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at his home in Sardis, MS.

Jerry was born February 4, 1947, in Grenada, MS, to the late Fate McCormick Little and Joseph Tillman Gant, Jr. He was a dedicated member of the Sardis United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees. Along with serving in the Mississippi Army National Guard, Jerry retired from BellSouth, and continued working in the telecommunications trade with MasTec for several years after retirement. In his spare time Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially enjoyed sharing his outdoor hobbies with others. His greatest passion, though, was devoting his time to helping other people, and he excelled at this to a level of near professionalism. From mission trips throughout Central America and throughout several U.S. states, to fixing and building things for friends and strangers alike, Jerry took great pride in doing things for others. It was his own way of serving the Lord and making life better for everyone he came across who might need a hand.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Carla Lambert Gant of Sardis, a daughter, Jennifer Pardoe (Jason) of Oxford, a son, Jerry Tillman “Jay” Gant II of Sarasota, FL, a step-son, Alex Lambert of Sardis, one grandson, Marley Rivers Gant of Sarasota, FL, three sisters, Dorothy G. “Jo” Cox (Bill) of Southaven, Pat Jeppe (Ronnie) of Southaven, and Cynthia L. Rowsey (Dan) of Oxford, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Marvin “Dude” Little, and his wife, June Short Gant.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Sardis United Methodist Men's wheelchair ramp fund, the Sardis UMC Sister Shirley John (Many Farms UMC) Fund, or the Methodist Children's Home in Clinton, and we encourage everyone to continue Jerry’s passion for helping others every chance you get. A memorial service will be held at Sardis United Methodist Church.at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020. Visitation will be at the church at 10 a.m. proceeding the service. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
