Obituary for Freddie Childress

Freddie Childress, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at his home in Senatobia, MS. Freddie was born on August 4, 1943, in Hickory Flat, MS, to Jewel Ruth Crouch Childress and Melvin Eugene Childress.

He was a minister and an iron worker. For forty-three years, Freddie served as an ordained minister of the International Gospel Assembly. The love he had for his church and family, and bringing people to the Lord, was his passion in life. His favorite hobbies included fishing, deer hunting and turkey hunting. He enjoyed watching old westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Bonanza and he dearly loved spoiling “Thunder,” his constant (Yorkie) companion. Freddie adored his grandchildren and enjoyed watching Channing play sports. He will be remembered as a loving, faithful husband, father, and grandfather.

Left to cherish his memory, is his loving family, which includes his wife of fifty-seven years, Bonnie Childress of Senatobia, MS; three daughters, LaVonne Thurman (Danny) of Hopkinsville, KY, Marie Fair (Dennis) of Senatobia, MS, and Katrina Schmitz (Sterling) of Water Valley, MS; one son, Fred C. Childress (Rebecca) of Senatobia, MS; two brothers, Raymond Childress of Texarkana, AR and Donald Gene Childress of Hernando, MS; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin Eugene Childress, Ted Childress and Russell Ray Childress and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home – Senatobia Chapel, on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 12 a.m. Visitation will be at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery.
