Obituary for Bobby Lawrence Legg
Mr. Bobby Lawrence Legg, 88, was born November 19, 1930 in Pampa, Texas to Raymond David and Avaughn Legg during the Great Depression. He was their firstborn with two younger sisters, Nell and Jeanette. He graduated from Itasca High School, playing both basketball and football during his time there. After high school he attended Hillsboro Junior College before joining the United States Air Force as an aerial navigator. He attended Officer Candidate School in Waco before becoming a radar observer/navigator, flying on F94 jet interceptors based out of Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth, Massachusetts during the Cold War and Korean War. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Violet Faye Legg. They married on Cape Cod in 1953.
After his 5 years in the Air Force, he went back to his home state of Texas to attend the University of Texas at Austin from 1956-1958 where he received his BBA in Accounting. After college, Bobby went to work for a major national accounting firm, Peat, Marwick & Mitchell, in Dallas. He was soon promoted to Managing Partner and transferred to the Amarillo, Texas office. In 1971, his work took him and his family to Memphis, Tennessee where he worked until his retirement in 1978. After retirement, Bobby and Violet moved to their farm in Senatobia, Mississippi, where they enjoyed entertaining their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoying outdoor adventures and making many, many wonderful memories.
Bobby had a deep passion for the outdoors, and enjoyed managing the natural resources on his property for the benefit of wildlife. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening, and spent much of his life with his family participating in these outdoor adventures.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving bride of 66 years, Violet Faye, children James (Connie) of Denison, TX; Andy (Susan) of Jonesboro, AR; Kyle (Pamela) of Keller, TX; Jenny Culp (Scott) of Lascassas, TN; little sister Jeanette Burns (Robert) of Crowley, TX; ten grandchildren, four great-grand children, one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Avaughn Legg of Crowley, TX, sister Nell and nephew Cody Burns.
A memorial service to honor Bobby's life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, at 3pm in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Rogers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wyatt Baptist Church.
