Obituary for Barney Wayne Scruggs
Mr. Barney Scruggs, 79, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Sardis Community Nursing Home in Sardis, MS.
He was born in Batesville, MS on February 7, 1940 to Estelle Lawley Scruggs and Charlie Scruggs and was a veteran of the MS National Guard Army. He was known as a kind and easy-going man who appreciated the many friends that he made throughout the years that he worked as a grocery manager. A devoted family man, he especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Scruggs is survived by his loving family, which includes one daughter, Nicci Scruggs Herl (Robert) of Hernando MS, two sons, Keith Scruggs (Tara) of Oxford, MS and Brad Scruggs (Allison) of Jackson, TN; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Gill of Sardis, MS and one brother, Donald Scruggs of Batesville, MS. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Sylvia Wolfe Scruggs and his parents.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Cold Springs Cemetery – Batesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
