Obituary for Annie J Vinson

Mrs. Annie J. Vinson, 94, passed away at her home in Sardis, MS, on Saturday, May 7, 2022. She was born in Sardis, on March 21, 1928, to Loura Bratton and Martin E. Jones.

“Miss Annie”, as she was lovingly called by her friends, was a longtime member of Sardis Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Sardis High School and attended Northwest Mississippi Jr. College, in Senatobia. Miss Annie worked several jobs, all of which she enjoyed and was successful. She was employed as a telephone operator, by the Sardis Telephone Company, worked at the GTL Restaurant in Sardis, the library in Water Valley and was a receptionist for the Job Corp in Batesville. She eventually moved to Oxford, where she was active in many ofo the Baptist churches in Lafayette County and was also a member of the Lafayette County Homemakers Club.
She was very much a “people person” who made friends easily and almost never met a person whom she didn’t like.

Miss Annie was a faithful Christian woman, who deeply believed God carried her through many trials and tribulations. Her daily walk with God and her strong faith inspired her life’s motto, “Rest In The Lord”.
Miss Annie loved to cook, work in her flowers, and relax on the front porch in her swing, waving at everyone who passed by. Her grandchildren lovingly called her “Mamaw and Ann-E” and her sisters called her “Frog”.

Left to cherish her memory, is her loving family, which includes, her daughter, Sheila Crawley, of Oxford and her son, Boots Still and his wife Cathy, of Sardis; three grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; eleven brothers and sisters and one granddaughter, Suzanne Crawley.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
