Obituary for Ann Morrow Shankle (Hawkins)
Ann Morrow Hawkins Shankle, 89, passed away at Panola Medical in Batesville, MS, on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Ann was born in Courtland, MS on September 2, 1934, to Annie Dell Morrow Hawkins and Roy Hawkins.
Ann was a member of the National Association of Banking Women (NABW) and was one of the few females to become a bank and loan officer in the 1970’s. She was a dedicated employee of First Security Bank for over 65 years. To Ann, working at the bank was not just a job, she considered her co-workers and customers as a part of her family. When she was not working, Ann loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens. Ann was also member of Batesville First Methodist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving family, which includes her son, Chris Shankle (Sara) of Shreveport, LA; one sister, Elsie Hawkins Everett of Batesville, MS; and two grandchildren, Andrew Shankle and Anna Shankle Dixon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mellard Barr Shankle; her parents, Annie & Roy Hawkins; and one brother, Otis Hawkins.
A visitation will be held at Dickins Funeral Home, Batesville, MS on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Visitation will be held at Batesville First Methodist Church on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at Batesville First Methodist Church on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery, Batesville, MS.
